Tutor Professionalism
Tutorzone.com.my has identified a set of standards expected of tutors registered with us. Tutors are held to high standards of conduct and professionalism. Although these qualities cannot be verified during registration, we expect tutors to have read these standards and accepted responsibility for them.
1. Respectful support As a tutor you are there to provide patient, supportive coaching to your student(s). It is important that you develop a respectful relationship between you and your tutee. You will be expected to be positive and encouraging when you give constructive criticism of your student's academic performance, rather than in a negative manner that will cause your student to lose confidence in himself/herself.
2. Timekeeping Tutors are expected to keep all tutoring appointments and consistently arrive on time. If you are late or cannot make it for the lesson, have the courtesy to call up the student beforehand to inform him/her.
3. Confidentiality One of the most important aspects of being a tutor is keeping the confidence of your student. To be specific, all information shared during tutoring appointments is to remain confidential. Maintain the privacy of the students you tutor and consider information they give you to be confidential.
Standards of Conduct for Tutors As a tutor, I make an important contribution to the education of students whom I tutor. To maintain high standards of ethical conduct in my tutoring, I agree to abide by these standards:
1. Provide tutoring to my best ability to any student that I teach.
2. Represent my expertise accurately to my students. When necessary, I will tell students I am not well qualified to deal with specific topics/subjects.
3. Each student has different educational needs and I will do my best to meet them.
4. Avoid personal conflicts of interest.
5. Make no negative comments about teachers or schools.
6. Be present and on time for all tutorial appointments; notify my students if I'm not able to make an appointment.
7. Not be false and give my students unrealistically high expectations about the benefits of my tutorial services.
8. I will not use tutorials to impose my personal beliefs/ethics on students.
9. Provide students with a balanced view of their skills—neither giving false praise and hope nor unnecessarily affecting their self confidence.
10. I will strive my utmost best to help my student achieve academic progress. Not to cause the student to be dependent on me but guide him/her to become independent of me.
11. I am familiar with the examination syllabus of the subjects I teach. |
